| IVR
stands for Interactive
voice response. IVR
is a phone technology
that allows a computer
to detect voice and
touch tones using
a normal phone call.
The IVR system typically
plays a pre-recorded
message and allows
the customer on the
other end to repond
by pressing a number.
Many business' and
offices use IVR to
give clients appointment
reminders. Recently,
IVR has been used
by major cities to
warn of emergency
such as sever weather,
water main breaks
and watering restrictions.
Another
great use of the
IVR is being used
by some hospitals
so that a patient
can stay anonymus.
Hospitals and Clinics
have used IVR systems
to allow callers
to receive anonymous
access to test results.
This is information
that could easily
be handled by a
person but the IVR
system is used to
preserve privacy
and avoid potential
embarrassment of
sensitive information
or test results.
There
are some people
who claim to not
like the IVR because
it seems less formal
with a customer
on the line, but
the real deal is
that it contacts
only customers who
want to talk to
someone or who are
interested. As an
example, if you
are predictively
dialing, you may
have to talk to
several people before
you get someone
who is interested.
IVR saves you all
that time by only
transferring the
customers to you
that are interested.
